Land Acknowledgement
This work takes place on the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, who have cared for this land since time immemorial. These lands include what is now known as Brampton and Halton Hills and are part of the Ajetance Purchase (Treaty 19) and the Head of the Lake Purchase (Treaty 14 and Treaty 14A).
With gratitude, we honour their enduring relationship with the land, water, and all living beings. The ground beneath us holds many stories — of life, loss, resilience, and renewal.
In this space, where we gather to honour grief and remember those we love, may we also pause to acknowledge the land that holds us. May we walk gently here, with respect for the people who have cared for this land for generations and with care for the community we share today.
For those wishing to deepen their understanding of the Indigenous lands where they live and work, you may explore Native Land Digital at native-land.ca, an interactive resource that helps people learn about the traditional territories, treaties, and languages connected to the land around them.
